Our 70th Birthdays

My wife's class of 53 students is sharing information on how they have or are celebrating their 70th birthdays.   Many of them have mentioned that 70 definitely seems older than 69.   But as one of her classmates says, " every day we wake up on this side of the dirt is a special day!" So I decided to add this topic to our web site.

So the question is, " How did you spend your 70th or what are you planning?"

To get it started, here is my story. At breakfast on the day of my birthday there was not memtion of it being my birthday. So I assumed there was going to be a big surprise party later in the day. So I occupied the day expecing the door to burst open, while I attended to routine daily projects. Evening came and still silence. So, I went to bed with never the sound of "Happy Birthday". The early the next morning, her father phoned to ask about my special day. I heard a bit of gasping and then silance. Bottom line, the answer was out, and totally appropriate to the age being celebrated, my wife had my birthday date mixed up, and we did absolutely nothing special!  To make up for her senior moment(s) mistake(s), she did buy me a pound and a half lobster tail for dinner the next night. Does any one have a sadder story than this? 

She is has already made plans to share her upcoming 70th birthday with me on a day long horseback ride high in the mountains near Durango, CO  above the Purgatory Ski area.  The outfitters will pack in any lunch you make, so it could be caviar and champagne or Canteen sandwiches .  If your interested, plan to join us on next years ride!

Bill Schertz

Reports that his Son is taking him on a whitetail/Axis/Hog hunt @ the Heart of Texas Bowhunting In October.  He and my wife set it up in Feb..  Now all I have to do is get in better shape and practice.
